The Yaobikuni (八百比丘尼 Yaobikuni, lit. "Eight Hundred Years Nun") is a minor character in XxxHOLiC.
Appearance[]
The Yaobikuni's hair was shown to be curly and flowing past her shoulders and her body clothed and bandaged when she first met Kimihiro Watanuki. When she removed her clothing and bandages, her hair is revealed to be at least as long as her body.
Personality[]
The Yaobikuni has lived a very lonely and sorrowful existence due to her constantly outliving her human companions and seeking yet more companionship.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Yaobikuni is a human girl who once consumed the flesh of a mermaid and thus extended her life and youth. She constantly searches for human companionship, but they inevitably die, so she weeps tears of blood, creating The Crimson Pearl.
Events of XxxHOLiC[]
Yaobikuni removes her bandages and clothing, her wounds instantly healing, and her hair revealed to be longer than her body. Watanuki asks what she is, but she doesn’t have an answer other than that she was human once. She sheds a tear of blood, which forms the crimson pearl. She explains that the crimson pearl is formed whenever someone with whom she has spent time dies. Watanuki understands this to be the woman’s method of grieving the loss of others, which she agrees with, saying she still feels sorrow. She gives Watanuki the pearl, recognizing him as someone like her. [1]

Jorougumo[]
Jorougumo explains that Yaobikuni was always seeking companionship from humans over time. She also knew that Yaobikuni was being abused and that the girl did not heal herself in order to not frighten away her human companion. As such, Yaobikuni had to bear the pain of her wounds, something Jorougumo notes of Watanuki when she nicks his neck for some blood. Jorougumo ponders if Watanuki will still be human or more like the non-humans like herself once he becomes more powerful. Watanuki then tells Jorougumo to go see Yaobikuni as he believes that Yaobikuni is waiting for someone to keep her company, and Watanuki believes that someone has to be Jorougumo. [2]

- The crimson pearl being formed by her tears of blood may reference the samebito, an aquatic creature whose tears become pearls.
